Graham Packaging Canada Limited is looking for a Serivce position (Packer/Finisher/Boxmaker/Material Handler) based in Mississauga, ON. This is night shift position currently operating from 11 PM to 7 AM.
Packer/Finisher will perform material handling, assembly, finishing and finished product inspection, clean up, packaging and other manufacturing activities as directed by the Shift Supervisor and Lead Person.
Boxmaker will operate various machines with main objective being the fabrication/assembly of containers and boxes for shipping manufactured plastic bottles, and other manufacturing activities as directed by the Shift Supervisor and Lead Person.
Material Handlers move, load and unload materials by hand or by using a variety of material handling equipment, and other manufacturing activities as directed by the Shift Supervisor and Lead Person.
Job Functions/Tasks:
Packer/Finisher will perform some or all of the following duties:
• Transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout plant manually or using powered equipment.
• Operate machines or equipment, or use hand tools to cut, shape, splice and fit plastic materials to form product(s) including trim, grind or buff plastic products into final form.
• Sort, pack, crate and package materials and products.
• Visually inspect manufactured plastic products for defects and conformance to specifications and quality standards.
• Affix seals or tags to approved plastic products and mark and reroute defective products for repair or recycle.
• Unjam production line(s) and/or clean work areas and equipment as necessary.
• Prepare reports on products inspected.
Boxmaker will perform some or all of the following duties:
• Set up and/or operate machines that cut, fold, glue or clip paper and cardboard to make boxes and/or cartons.
• Packing preparation of empty boxes, inserting plastic bags as required, and stacking boxes near Packing Station for operator.
• Packing completion by stacking filled boxes on skids per specification, tying boxes on the skids, writing/applying identification labels, weighing boxes and/or verifying bottle count.
• Clean and lubricate machine(s) or grinds scrap as required.
• Troubleshoot, make minor repairs and perform other routine machine maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of material, and a clean working area.
Material Handlers will perform some or all of the following duties:
• Assist Production Support and/or Service personnel in performing their duties.
• Load, unload and move products and materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment.
• Opens containers and fills hopper/unscrambler with bottles.
• Closes boxes and stacks skids on floor as necessary.
• Perform other material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking.
• Affix seals or tags to approved plastic products and mark/reroute defective products for rework/recycle.
• Removes scrap, makes boxes, fills warehouse orders, assists in taking inventory and/or checking of bottles as instructed by the Shift Supervisor and/or Lead Person.
• Cleans, washes and repairs screens as directed.
• Fulfill all duties assigned by the QC Supervisor.
Job Requirements:
• Completion of high school as a minimum with a preference to a college diploma in a discipline related to facility operation and maintenance, OR an equivalent combination of technical training and experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Completion of courses in hydraulics, pneumatics or electronics systems are beneficial.
• Possesses superior problem solving and quality management skills.
• Have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Must have the ability to work independently within a defined/documented schedule.
• Has strong interpersonal skills and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
• Maintains a current forklift operator’s certificate and a valid driver’s license.
• Has a clear understanding of potential health and safety hazards within a manufacturing facility and is knowledgeable of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
